Systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis
#1
Systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (sJIA) is a subtype of juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) that affects children under the age of 16. It is characterized by systemic inflammation, which means that it can affect many different parts of the body, including the joints, skin, and internal organs. sJIA is considered a systemic autoimmune disorder, and it can cause high fevers, rashes, and other symptoms in addition to joint pain and swelling. It is treated with a combination of medications, including nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), corticosteroids, and disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs), as well as physical therapy and other treatments as needed. The goal of treatment is to control inflammation and prevent joint damage.
