Can juvenile arthritis cause fever?
#1
Yes, juvenile arthritis (JA) can cause fever. In fact, fever is a common symptom of many forms of arthritis, including juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), the most common form of JA.

Fever is a result of inflammation in the body, and inflammation is a hallmark of autoimmune diseases like JIA. When the immune system attacks the joints, it can also trigger a fever as the body tries to fight off the perceived infection.

If your child has JIA and has a fever, it is important to contact their doctor. The doctor may suggest testing to determine the cause of the fever, as well as treatment to help manage the symptoms and reduce inflammation. In some cases, treatment for JIA may need to be adjusted if the child is experiencing a flare-up with fever.
