Juvenile arthritis and vision loss
#1
Juvenile arthritis (JA) is a form of arthritis that affects children under the age of 16. In some cases, JA can cause vision problems or even vision loss. This can occur as a result of inflammation in the eye or other parts of the eye, leading to conditions such as uveitis, scleritis, or episcleritis. These conditions can cause pain, redness, and decreased vision in one or both eyes.

It's important for children with JA to receive regular eye exams to monitor for any changes in their vision or eye health. Early diagnosis and treatment of eye problems is important in preventing vision loss. Treatment for eye problems related to JA may include medications to reduce inflammation, as well as eye drops or other treatments to manage symptoms.

In severe cases, vision loss may be permanent, so prompt and appropriate treatment is important to help preserve vision and maintain good eye health. If you have concerns about your child's vision, it is important to consult with an ophthalmologist or other eye care professional.
