Vehicle adaptions for a disabled person - KeithD - 06-02-2023

There are several types of adaptations that can be made to a vehicle to make it accessible for a person with disabilities, including:

  1. Wheelchair ramps or lifts: devices that allow a wheelchair user to enter and exit a vehicle.
  2. Hand controls: controls that allow a driver with limited mobility to operate the vehicle using their hands.
  3. Pedal extensions: devices that extend the reach of the brake and accelerator pedals, making it easier for a driver with limited mobility to operate the vehicle.
  4. Swivel seats: seats that rotate to make it easier for a wheelchair user to transfer into the driver's seat.
  5. Transfer boards: devices that assist with transferring from a wheelchair to a vehicle seat.
  6. Tie-down systems: restraints and straps that secure a wheelchair or scooter inside the vehicle.
  7. Left foot accelerators: devices that allow a driver with limited mobility to use their left foot to operate the accelerator pedal.
