In addition to the more common symptoms of ankylosing spondylitis, some individuals with this condition may also experience some rare symptoms, including:
  • Chest pain: due to inflammation in the chest wall and rib joints
  • Difficulty breathing: as a result of chest involvement
  • Swelling in the legs: due to enthesitis (inflammation of the tendons or ligaments where they attach to bone)
  • Psoriasis: a skin condition that can develop in some people with ankylosing spondylitis
  • Cardiac involvement: rare but serious cases can lead to aortitis (inflammation of the aorta)
  • Bowel involvement: Inflammation in the gut can lead to symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, and blood in the stool

These symptoms may be less common, but it's important to be aware of them and to report any unusual or persistent symptoms to your doctor for further evaluation.
