Psoriatic arthritis can affect any joint in the body, including those in the scalp. Symptoms of psoriatic arthritis in the scalp may include:
  • Scalp tenderness or pain
  • Scalp swelling
  • Thick, scaly patches of skin on the scalp
  • Hair loss
  • Stiffness in the neck or back

Treatment for psoriatic arthritis of the scalp is similar to that for psoriatic arthritis affecting other joints, and may include medications such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs), biologic drugs, and corticosteroids. In some cases, topical treatments such as medicated shampoos or creams may be used to help manage symptoms in the scalp.
