Gout is a type of arthritis caused by the build-up of uric acid crystals in the joints, leading to pain and inflammation. To help manage gout, it is recommended to avoid or limit the following foods:
- Alcohol, especially beer
- High-purine foods such as red meat, organ meats (liver, kidneys), and seafood (anchovies, sardines, herring, mussels, scallops)
- Processed and packaged foods high in sodium
- Sugary drinks, including fruit juices and sodas
- Foods high in fructose, such as sweetened drinks, candy, and baked goods
