What is ankylosing spondylitis kyphosis?
#1
Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a type of chronic inflammatory arthritis that primarily affects the spine and sacroiliac joints. Kyphosis is a spinal condition in which the normal curvature of the spine is exaggerated, causing a rounded appearance of the upper back. In some cases, people with AS may develop kyphosis as a result of the inflammation and progressive fusion of the vertebral joints, leading to a stiffening of the spine. This can cause discomfort and limit mobility, and in severe cases, may require surgical intervention.
