Ankylosing spondylitis and ulcerative colitis
#1
Ankylosing spondylitis and ulcerative colitis are two separate conditions, but they can sometimes occur together. Ankylosing spondylitis is a type of arthritis that primarily affects the spine, causing inflammation and eventual fusion of the vertebrae. Ulcerative colitis is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that affects the colon and rectum, causing inflammation and ulcerations in the lining of the colon. When both conditions occur together, it is referred to as "spondyloarthritis with inflammatory bowel disease." People with this combination of conditions often experience symptoms such as back pain, stiffness, and fatigue, as well as digestive symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, and rectal bleeding.
